I am currently curled up on my couch with a hot cup of tea and a big black dog curled up by my feet. It's been a long time since I gave an update... May 10, 2009! Would you like to know what I've been up to since then? I'm going to tell you!
First of all, the look of this place has changed a bit. I hope you like it! I like change every once in a while. My goal is to update this blog once a week. Yes, that's right, I'm setting the bar high for myself, but I think I can do it. All the essentials can be found here... music, shows, updates, merchandise, contact information. Take a look around! Sign up to be on the Kayla Luky mailing list! Listen to some tunes! There isn't anything in the Multimedia section... yet! That will change though. So excuse me in the meantime.
Right now, the music player holds 3 demos I recorded back in April. In less than a month, my good friend Zachary Lucky along with a few other people will be invading Grandview to record my new album! These demos will be re-recorded and will appear on the full length to be released in May. I am very excited to start this project, and I hope you will follow and be part of it! There are all kinds of social networking sites you can find me on, but your best bet is to visit this website for updates, or become my friend on Twitter. With all the social networking sites these days, it's hard to keep them all updated. Please bear with me as I try and tackle that.
Where in the world are we recording in Grandview, you may ask? For those of you don't know, Grandview is a town of about 800 people located just west of Dauphin, Manitoba nestled between the Riding and Duck Mountains. In June 2009 I became a first time homeowner in the little town of Grandview. After living in Winnipeg for about two years, I moved back into the 'rents for about a year. I decided Grandview was a good a place as any to hang a hat, and thus started my life as a grown up.
Just kidding, I'm not a grown up. I just have more bills to pay! I love my home. It's a big, old 1913 house with a garden in the back. Last year's garden prospered a bit better than this year... Although a nice crop of mustard still looks alright while sipping a beverage or two on the deck. In 2009, I painted more walls than I ever want to do in a very long time, but I am very fortunate to have had some great help. I have also been blessed with some great friends and neighbours, and all in all, small town living is pretty good.
Since May 2009 I have still been playing shows when I can. The 9-5 has made it a little bit more difficult, but I am still pretty lucky in that department too. I have been Ukrainian Dancing again, as well as teaching children's ballet. I am pretty involved with my community, between my job, theatre, volunteering (my latest thing is my home being a host on the Central Plains Circuit of Homeroutes House Concerts) and anything and everything in between. (You might even consider me a bit of a Yogi now!) I have a crazy schedule, and although it is stressful at times, I don't think I would want it any other way!
That big black dog I mentioned earlier? Her name is Cora. My better half and I got a black lab puppy together back in May 2010. We got her when she was just this cute little nugget of 6 weeks. She is close to 80 pounds! She's snoring on the couch now, by the way...
I am a vehicle owner! You know what that means? Playing more shows! I hope to be coming to a town near you in the near future! I want to be out on the road as much as I can. So be sure to check out the Performances link to see where I'll be going to next.
My tea is almost done, and tomorrow morning comes quick. Tell me how things are in your world! Send me an email, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for visiting and I hope you come back soon. Take care, and talk to you in a week!
